HONORS HIGHLANDER CHOIR
Course Number: 738
Prerequisite: None. Application and Audition
Grades: 10-12
This course is an in-school class designed for more advanced singers who would like to pursue a deeper exploration of musicianship and vocal skills and students who may be interested in pursuing a minor, major, or career in music. An application and audition is required. Please see the links below.

Honors Highlander Choir Commonly Asked Questions:
Q. Do I have to audition for Honors Highlander?
A. Yes, since it is an Honors Course, admission is selective.
Q. What period is Honors Highlander?
A. Usually 4th period.
Q. Can I take this course in place of a lunch?
A. Yes, we allow lunch to be eaten in this course as a courtesy as long as there are no other lunch options available to the student. There is a form required by guidance in order to be given this courtesy. Please email the choir director.
Q. Can I take this course as a 4-Day with a Lab?
A. Unfortunately, no. BHS does not allow Honors Courses to be taken with a lab.
Q. Do I have to know how to sing?
A. Yes. Typically, the higher voices are much more competitive while the lower voices (Basses and Tenors) have a much easier time qualifying for the group.
Q. Can I take this course again if I've already taken it?
A. Yes. You can audition/apply for this course every year.
Q. Can I take this course AND another choir course?
A. Yes. You may take all of the choir courses.
Q. Do I have to sing solos?
A. Yes. But not in front of people. You may be asked to sing solos in class as a part of this course. You may opt to submit solos independently. Solos are not required for concerts.

A. Yes. We work to do a music dept. trip at least every other year.

A. Honors courses can boost your GPA by .5 points. For instance: Finishing with a 3.5 GPA in an honors course could equate to a 4.0 in a regular course. It also signals to colleges that you are serious about your academics and that you are the type of student who challenges yourself.

Baldwinaires is an after school singing group that focuses primarily on a cappella music. The group rehearses on Tuesdays from after school until 4 or 5 at the latest and performs in various events throughout the community such as the BHS Spring Choir Concert, Baldwin Light Up Night, Caste Light Up Night, and other venues around the Pittsburgh area. Audition Application recordings are due on or before the last Friday in September. Rehearsals and performances are required. Please read all details carefully to be sure you are able to commit.

Baldwin Chorus is a mixed choir that uses great choir and solo music to focus on developing vocal power and confidence, singing technique such as breath support, and improving tone and intonation. Think of it as a choir with group voice lessons!
